Information
IN THE BEGINNING
.
The chemical age brought about
the introduction of synthetic fertilizers. A German Chemist, Justus von
Liebig, is credited to being the father of chemical agriculture.
Beginning in the middle of the last century, he deduced from the ashes of a
plant that he had burned, that what nourished plants was nitrogen, phosphorus,
and potash-the NPK of todays chemical agriculture. Ten years later Liebig
discovered that the secret of fertilizing soil lay precisely in organic
excreta,(humus and humis acid), not chemicals.
CHEMICALS
.
What most people dont realize
is that a plant grown with synthetic fertilizers has been given a short-term
chemical fix. It is the humus content that gives soil the reserve
fertility needed to produce optimum yields under the broadest spectrum of
growing conditions while still producing plants that are nutritionally well
balanced. Chemical fertilizers dont contribute to the humus or organic
levels of the soil. In many cases they can burn the young growth and they
can reduce or destroy microorganisms, which are the life of the fertile
soil.
ORGANICS
.
MISTY GROWER is a completely organic
fertilizer consisting of 100% heat processed poultry litter-one of the richest
manures available as an abundant natural resource. The crumbled or fine
form allows ease of application by hand or using conventional spreaders and is
completely safe with no need for protective clothing or gloves. Applied
alone or in combination with synthetic products, MISTY GROWER provides
agriculture and horticulture the following benefits:
NUTRIENTS-
Misty Grower contains
nutrients making them available to plants as they
are needed. It is rich in
naturally occurring nutrients that are released into the soil at a rate that
parallels a plants ability to utilize them.
MINERALS-
Misty Grower stores
minerals. Tiny particles called colloids have a negative charge and
attract positive charged elements such as potassium, calcium, magnesium, and
iron. Colloids have the capacity to hold minerals.
ROOT
STRUCTURE-
Misty Grower increases root structure
increasing the efficiency of the uptake of nutrients and moisture. It
prevents erosion by creating a high level of humus, which allows water to soak
in slowly. Without humus, rain bounces onto the hard soil surface churning
up soil particles to form muddy drops of water. These drops run over the
surface carrying away valuable soil particles resulting in erosion.
LACK OF
POLLUTANTS-
Misty Grower is pollution free. Up to
60% of the initial application of chemical fertilizer nitrogen cant be used by
the young plant, leaches in 70-90 days and ends up as a potential pollutant to
both the ground and surface water. Chemical fertilizer production requires
about 42 gallons of petroleum to produce 100 pounds of nitrogen
fertilizer. Misty Grower utilizes an abundant supply of a natural
resource-broiler poultry litter.
SOIL
CONDITIONING-
Misty Grower is an organic soil conditioner
capable of providing sustained fertility. Heat processed to temperatures
exceeding 185 degrees, it is free of pathogens, bacteria, drug residue and weed
seed, making it 100% sterile.
ESTABLISHED LAWNS: In early spring, using a drop or cyclone spreader,
evenly apply 25 pounds per 1000 square feet, (10 x 100 feet). Repeat again
in late summer. On less fertile soils or summer grasses, (Bermuda, Zoysia,
Centipede, or St. Augustine), a supplemental feeding in midsummer is
desirable. Water thoroughly after each application. Annual use at
this rate reduces fire ant infestations.
NEW LAWNS: Apply 40 to 50 pounds per 1000 square feet,
(10 x 100 feet). Mix into the soil at a depth of 4 to 6 inches.
Smooth seed by raking. Sod or seed grass immediately. Water
thoroughly with a fine spray and keep soil moist until grass germinates.
After grass germinates and until it is well established, water a little heavier
to encourage deep root penetration.
HOUSE PLANTS: Bury pellets beneath soil surface at the following
rates: 4 pot, apply 1 teaspoon; 6 pot, apply one tablespoon; 8 pot, apply 2
tablespoons; 12 pot, apply 3 tablespoons. Water the plant(s) after
application. Repeat application every six weeks.
FLOWER BEDS: Before planting apply 5 pounds per 100
square feet of bed area and work well into the soil. There after, apply 2
pounds per 100 square feet every six weeks. Water the bed after each
application.
SHRUBS AND HEDGES: Feed in the Spring after the threat of frost has
passed. Broadcast 3-5 pounds per 100 square feet, taking care to ensure
the fertilizer reaches the soil or mulch surface. Water thoroughly after
each application. Repeat application early Summer and early
Fall.
SHADE, FRUIT, AND NUT TREES:
Under the limb, spread 4-6 pounds
per inch of trunk diameter. Fertilizer is more available to tree roots
when applied deep in the soil. Punch holes, not exceeding 8 inches deep,
at 3-foot intervals in a ring around the tree at the edge of the branches and
apply 2 cups pf fertilizer per hole. Take care not to damage existing tree
roots. Feed in early Spring to mid-Summer, preferably before growth
starts, or after leaves drop in the fall.
VEGETABLES: Before spading, broadcast 3-5 pounds per 100
square feet. For row crops, apply 3-5 ponds per 100 feet of row,
preferably in a trench 1 to 2 inches below and 1 to 2 inches to the side of the
seed. Apply same rate in 30 days.
